September 2007 Newsletter.
Hello friends!!!
It’s another time we can not take it for granted that we have seen this day. God has sustained our lives. It has taken us long to write and we must a apologize for this, please forgive us .
OUR FAMILY
Thanks very much for your prayers, care and support . Andrew was very ill as we had communicated to you in away that the doctors said his surviving chances were very narrow from the surgery, but thank God and praise Him because He has done another miracle for Amukowas and RUSH family again!!! We can say our lives are miracles. Andrew is well and back to work without going through surgery. You stood with us spiritually, Mentally, materially and physically.----------THANK YOU VERY MUCH—we have lacked words even it has taken us long time looking up in all the dictionaries we know for a word to express ourselves---- for appreciation. Not even able to explain what happened but what I know is that God HEALED HIM. He is another living testimony. We left doctors in Aga Khan University Hospital with their mouth open and no explanation of what might have happened, sometimes its hard to explain!! Praise God. As a family, we thank God and all of you plus our RUSH group. Our children have gone back to school, a new member Charles is doing well too. Also Zoë a 25 year old girl from England has joined our family and is working in school as a teacher.
RUSH ACADEMY SCHOOL
We opened school on the 5th of this month; we have started well despite problems with school bus which we are hoping that it shall be fixed soon. The maize we harvested last year has just got finished; thank God it has taken us through the year. One of our teachers has been now employed by the government so we have been forced to employ another teacher to replace Joyce Khamala; the new teacher is called Esther. Also Isaac was an IT teacher but he has moved to Nairobi. In short we need your support and prayers to get another IT teacher. Most teachers have asked for salary increment and I think Mama Joan Hadlow will agree with me that we have talked about it many times. At the moment please pray that they will listen to our explanation and accept to continue helping our Underprivileged children with good education. About books, we have gotten some from a young person Justin who was an intern from organization called FSD. Our library has started and we believe we shall get enough books in Gods time. In summer three young people and Kate from England came to paint our four classes ---------- they look great!!!!! Wiring was done the sometime and last month a team---on the box mission build another class which we are hopping to roof soon plus two pit latrines, that has given us a good position for next year-“hakuna matata” {no worries} RUSH academy accept anything inform of school fees to allow all the children to have good education. If they have never accepted the chickens for me to go school I will have never gotten a chance even to know how to read and write. But the challenge with our school is that most of parents or guardians don’t even pay tomatoes if need be . So pray that us we prepare to talk about the progress of the school they will co-operate and help us run the school effectively. Will have parent’s day on 14th November. We have lost six parents in our school of HIV and two of cancer, their children are now total orphans and fully relying on RUSH.- loads of challenges but with your moral, spiritual, mental, physical and material support we have always moved on. The good news is that the children are all well, they love school and the learning environment is contusive to them.
SPONSORSHIP PROGRAME
So far we have been lucky for some of the RUSH academy kids are sponsored and this enables us to able to feed them and pay uniform, for now each child is 50 pounds. But some of older children who are sponsored and go to different school costs more- 80 to 140 pounds. Thank you for your support.
ABURDONED KIDS
We have three at the moment and two go to school and one who is about two years – we guess we have called him Reuben and because we didn’t have the surname we decided to called him RUSH, he is doing well and he has started walking.
AGRICULTURE
We planted maize and beans on the land next to the nursery which we lease every year from the Ministry of public works department. We have just harvested maize, busy removing it from the cops. We had a good harvest and hope will take us through the year again. Beans didn’t do well though, we need to buy more the rain was too much and even now are not able to plant beans that we usually plant in short rain season. In all our God has good plans! The agriculture group has learnt lots of ways of how to use small piece of land to feed them throughout the year. Last month we had experts from the Ministry of Agriculture who voluntarily taught us many methods of farming. This has lifted high the spirit of our group. We are just purchasing the land to settle a few women { widows}- the money that Liz Noble raised to settle them and we are sure that with the knowledge they have gotten will completely change their living standards to high and better levels----thanks!
CARPENTRY, TAILORING AND IT.
We have four new carpentry boys as first years doing well, those that completed the course has been employed and one particular called Simon is employed in university working as a guard and doing wood work. This has really encouraged us, thanks to work Aid. In tailoring we have twenty girls, ten doing their national exams this year. Those who completed the course are working and we want to a sure you that YOU have saved a life here in Kakamega- God bless you. With IT is expensive course in Kenya and marketable when you are searching employment because they want computer literate. Thanks to Tension's School because you have enabled RUSH to offer free courses to unreached or underprivileged people.
FOOTBALL
The team is in the superleaque now and doing well as usual. They have won three and lost one!! Your support with balls has given or mobilise them to expose their talents, we need more please------ through football we have been to reach more youth and given them awareness of the killer disease AIDS. In June a trophy was donated by a five month old baby from uk—thanks which too encouraged the boys.
VISITING
Your coming encourages us more and always we have some to look forward to oops this reminds me of the team coming this November led by Pastor Ed. We are praying and looking forward to that. This year we had visitors coming bits which kept us going and us you know we have worked non stop almost four years now.Your coming renews our strength and a sure us of your care and support. We have conference and Aniversary with the team which is coming.
MEDICAL CAMP
This year we had two – free medical camps. The first was held on 14th of July in Butere which was sponsored by Kate’s daughter and her friends. We saw 1600 people. Although it was a short notice to the villagers but they were very serious cases and even the dental department had 340 teeth removed. I problem was the most challenging but thank God to the problems that were solved. Because of seeing many problems in remote areas we were encouraged to do another camp in another village where they we no hospital nearby the nearest was 10 miles away. It was held 11th August sponsored by on the box team which we saw 1498 people with even more serious cases. We took the video which when you get a chance to watch---- then you will never stop appreciating the life you live in your country. We had about 500 dental cases, wounds, leprosy, Typhoid, Malaria among many other sicknesses. God bless you our friends and bless keep on doing good, don’t be weary. We are praying for you always and I believe together we can make it. God bless with love and prayers from Lucy and Andrew.
