In Kenya at present, secondary education is neither free or compulsory, and so many children cannot afford to attend secondary schools. Others may attend for a couple of years but then cannot afford to stay on until the end. RUSH carpentry and tailoring schools offer a free alternative for those who have had to drop-out of school. These schools train the children to become professionals in their trade, thereby enabling them to seek employment once they qualify. In a country where mass-produced furniture or clothing is not common, the trades the children learn will hopefully give them the chance of a secure future income.
