This programme follows on from the home visiting. The aim of the scheme is to teach people how to plant and cultivate vegetables. This is a vital part of the self-help ethos. Once people are growing their own vegetables, labour to cultivate them is free, and some of the plants last indefinitely without need to buy more seeds. This enables them to be partly self-sufficient.
